An in-edit record from Basso Valdambrini with a 'strange' line up that sees Angel Pocho Gatti on piano instead of Renato Sellani. This recording is to be considered a true and proper Italian Jazz 'pearl' of the highest quality, not just for the standards that have been interpreted in a very personal way but above all for the new songs that have been written by Valdambrini and Angel Pocho Gatti. The record starts off with two classics from Miles Davis and Gil Evans and right from the very first notes you can immediately sense that the various components of this quintet are all in an unrepeatable state of grace. The third song 'Uroni' (written by Valdambrini) suggests that it was the fountain of inspiration and even the generator of the song 'Metropoli' by Gianni Ferrio (who has collaborated on numerous occasions with Valdambrini). It is a modern and likeable type of jazz that is rich in lovely sounds and knowing intuitions that have to be heard with the utmost respect and concentration. It is a record that is testimony to the maturity and devastating personalities of the quintet. Reinforcing this affirmation are songs such as 'Conseguenza', 'Ricorda Me' and 'Inver Time', three signs of a certain musical evolution of Valdambrini. Finishing the album is the title track 'Stella By Starlight', a classic moment from Gianni and a song that really does light up the night sky. This album is an Italian Jazz masterpiece. As usual the label have spared no expense on the packaging producing a superb LP replica sleeve for the CD and a lovely heavyweight sleeve for the vinyl (limited to 500 copies). Beautifully done!
