Illusiondelusiondisillusion Note: Genius, technical and open-mindedness, these are the main features of this new Italian jazz talent: Roberto Tarenzi My first meeting with Roberto was at the "alexander platz" jazz club in Rome where he played in a trio with the other members of the group who mae this record, i .e. with Roberto Pistolesi on thedrums and Francesco Puglisi on the bass. Accustomed to the classic standards of Italian musicians, I was pleasantly surprising to hear the notes of "one day I'll fly away" during the concert, this meeting allowed me to appreciate the ability of the trio and the versatility of Roberto tarenzi, and I must admit that, after listening to three songs, I already had in mind the record we could make together. Eleven tracks forming an ocean of swing, in an enchanting flow where the colors of the piano played by Roberto Tarenzi blend with the heart and catchy tunes of the Mediterranean. The interpretation of "Sonia" and "Bogota '" make us appreciate the proverbial fluidity of his phrasing which, combined with an uncommon sensitivity, makes him such an original pianist. His is a executive fantasy which flies high along the paths of a superb improvisational practice, which creates continuous variations on the basic elements, without sacrificing the enhancements and paraphrases. In two words, a genius in action who, compared to many of his colleagues, has the gift of stirring emotions in himself and his audience with pathos and emotional involvement. Puglisi has a discreet but highly propulsive bass when giving depth to the persuasive melodic piano lines. An input that affects the very fabric of the musical trio, as the accompaniment has the role of pressuring, stimulating and sometimes directing his younger companions. Roberto Pistolesi provides great rhythmic and composition support, and is perfectly capable of interpreting my expectations with a modern twist, but also he amazes me given his modernity and aperture towards all musical genres parallel to jazz. While recording in the studio I was impressed and surprised by the extreme originality of the new composed songs; this record combines some very different styles which are completely blended by the sound and the artistic capability of this group, ranging from the classic sounds of Ahmad Jamal 'Bogota' "and "Sonia" by Sonny Clark, and drum & bass tracks like Naxos, and modern episodes such as "One afternoon" and a surprising "Samba G" a perfect mix of Brazilian atmosphere and modal jazz that highlights the personalities of Roberto Tarenzi and Roberto Pistolesi (co-author of this track and author of "one afternoon") I think the Tarenzi Trio has distinguished itself in recent years for its ease of communication, the result of a soul-jazz attitude which - in the midst of so many tedious harmonic players - has captured the consideration of many. Music made by artists who are the children of our time. Citizens of the world. Children who have grown and matured at a time when the divisions between genres and barriers, no longer make any sense. Musicians who know the history and language of jazz extremely well, but never let it restrict them.
